Becoming Born Again

In a previous post the scriptures reveal that we enter the kingdom when we are born again. In it Jesus says we must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom. Let’s see if we can make being born again more clear.

Peter tells us in Acts 2:38

“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

This is what Jesus is saying in John Chapter 3, When He says, “You must  be born of the water and the spirit”. Peter confirms it here:

We have to repent (turn from our wrong doing and turn to God)

Be baptized in the name of Jesus, for the remission of sin. (which is forgiveness for our sins, which reconciles us to God)

And we will receive the Holy Spirit. (to help us remain righteous. Not our righteousness but His in us.)

Being born again is a spiritual birth. Confirming what Paul is teaching us about becoming spiritual. In John 3:3 if we look at the Greek, the original  says, “born from above” rather than “born again”.

So this is a key to entering the Kingdom, being born again. What do we do when we get in? Let me know what you think in the comments.

More On The Spiritual Kingdom

Galatians 4:21

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—

26 but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.

The Apostle Paul is telling us here that his outlook here is to be part of a spiritual Kingdom. Here is another example in,

Hebrews 12:18

For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, 19 and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. 20 (For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.” 21 And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”)

22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,

the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,

23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

Notice we have the 2 Covenants mentioned again and the Spiritual Kingdom.

The Spiritual Kingdom

Revelation 6:9

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Note: At the beginning of the Kingdom that Christ creates, the Christians who are brought into it are spiritual as show above in this scripture. In other words even though those who had entered the Kingdom as mentioned in previous posts it was a spiritual reality, the physical Kingdom had not arrived yet. They were told to wait until the rest of their brethren were brought in. In future posts I will show that there is a time when the Kingdom becomes a kingdom on Earth.

When this happens, this fulfills those things the Apostles were waiting for example in First Corinthians 1:7 and First Peter 1:7.

Who Enters In?

Matthew 21:23

Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”

24 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”

And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”

They said to Him, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

Note: Yet another scripture telling us people are entering the Kingdom. Interesting Jesus tells them, those who believed John the Baptist’s message would enter before the religious Jews would.

Entering the Kingdom

John Chapter 3:5

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Note: If we are born again as mentioned above and this happens while we are alive, then we have entered the kingdom now!

This is confirmed in Colossians 1:12-14

“Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Note: Now this was written 2000 years ago. Do you think this Kingdom has arrived? Let me know in the comments.

Knowledge of the kingdom

Matthew 13

“The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.  Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.  This is why I speak to them in parables:”

“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or  understand.”
